ATTACK OF CASTING DOC

Bill Lucking, pictured above, played Colonel John Renwick, aka Renny, in the 1975 DOC SAVAGE film. What other actors could have portrayed the big-fisted, dour-faced engineer member of Doc's Fabulous Five? I'm glad you asked.

CLIMAX, April 1961. Nice mixture of fact and fiction plus a pictorial on Ava Gardner. Purchased this one at a 2012 City Wide Garage Sale.

Here's CAVALIER for February, 1960. In addition to the usual mix of "fact and fiction" this issue features a pictorial of then popular pin-up model June "the Bosom" Wilkinson. Over time, CAVALIER would drop most of the text features in favor of more cheesecake pictorials of lovely young women. I like the fact that the masthead of CAVALIER promises "this magazine guaranteed or double your money back" Just what exactly is being "guaranteed" here and did any red-blooded American male (young or old) who ever purchased a copy of CAVALIER, ever ask for double his money back? For the record, I bought this beauty on eBay many years ago, when I first started collecting men's adventure magazines.

CASTING DOC WALKS AMONG US

Michael Miller (third from the left in the image above) is, to date, the only actor to portray Lt. Col. Andrew Blodgett Mayfair, aka Monk, on screen. Monk was the world class chemist on Doc Savage's team of aides, otherwise known as The Fabulous Five. Once again, let's look at possible casting choices for Monk in the Doc Savage films that were never made (but should have been).
